Last week, in his last at-bat in Yankee stadium, Derek Jeter delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the 9th to beat the first place Baltimore Orioles. It was magical for everyone who has ever felt a connection to the Yankee captain. The man has carved out a legendary career, highlighted by five world series rings and more than 3,000 career hits. As Jeter rounded first, Yankee stadium began to roar, and gallons of tears shed from happy fans all around the world.
That night, the hashtag #re2spect started trending on social media, as a respect to the man who wore #2 for the Pinstripes all twenty years of his career. Last night, he played the final game of his career in Boston's Fenway Park, a notoriously familiar place for Jeter and anyone who has ever played for the Yanks. Jeter went about his work as usual, and the season came to a close. It will surely be an interesting start to next season without number 2 starting at short. So, here's one final goodbye to the greatest shortstop in the history of the game, and to one of the great gentlemen the game has ever seen as well. #RE2PECT.
