Jose Fernandez has been the subject of some saddening news for Marlins fans: he has been injured and will have to end his 2014 season early. During an exciting game last Saturday against the San Diego Padres, Jose sprained his right elbow which resulted in his being put on a 15 day leave. The big question remains: Who will take the lead and rocket the Marlins to the World Series?
What do Ervin Santana of the Atlanta Braves, Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox, Justin Masterson of the Cleveland Indians, Francisco Liriano of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Jake Peavy of the Red Sox all have in common?
They are all being considered as potential options to replace Jose Hernandez as the pitcher for the Miami Marlins.
Marlins fans from all over are quite concerned that this is likely what will happen. The owner of the Marlins, a man by the name of Jeff Loria, has often been criticized for viewing baseball as a way to make money as opposed to loving the game and sincerely wanting his team to win games. There is much talk that he will try use Fernandez' injury as a means to bring on a cheaper pitcher and save money.
What are your thoughts on the matter? If you're a Marlins fan, we'd love to hear your thoughts in a comment below.
